About Happiness
- Overthinking is the biggest cause of unhappiness.
- There is no path to happiness: happiness is the path.
- Perhaps happiness is always to be found in the journey uphill, and not in the fleeting sense of satisfaction awaiting at the next peak (Section 4 in “12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos” by Jordan B. Peterson)
- Comparison is the thief of joy (I saw this on a random Instagram short: a guy was lifting some pretty heavy weights, and a girl nearby said, “You’re pretty good!” He shrugged and said, “It’s nothing compared to that big muscle guy over there.” Then her reaction was like: “Nooooo, don’t say that. Comparison is the thief of joy.”)
- (In Korean) 현재에서 멀어진 만큼 정신건강이 안 좋은 것이다.
- Translation: The more detached you are from the present, the more your mental health suffers.
Attitudes
- The man who blames others has a long journey ahead. The man who blames himself is halfway there. The man who blames no one has already arrived. (I saw this in a random YouTube Shorts where the guy said it’s a Chinese axiom—but I have no idea where it actually comes from.)
- Take courage under uncertainty.
- Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the number of moments that take our breath away. → I really like this.
- True nobility is being superior to your former self (Hemingway).
- You can ignore reality. But you can't ignore the consequences of ignoring reality (Youtube comments).
Success
- There is only one success - to be able to spend your life in your own way (Christopher Morley)
Human Nature / the way the world works
- The money you spend tells a lot about who you are.
- Peace is a privilege given by the strong to the weak.
